Our Work
The Society is in the early stages of planning future work to maintain and enhance our High Street in Cricklade. We believe Cricklade High Street is the Heart of the Town and our work will be focused on its preservation.
Save Cricklade High Street
Supporting the High Street
We are fortunate in Cricklade to still have a High Street with a range of shops and businesses. We have lost several businesses over the years and we cannot afford to lose any more. Our work will help to maintain these vital services and keep a vibrant High Street as the centre of our Town.
Cricklade Police Station
The notice, from the Police Commissioner’s Office, that the Cricklade Police Station was planned to be sold was the impetus we needed to set up the Society.
The work we plan, if we are able to acquire the building, is an example of what we are trying to do. The intention would be to create a suitable commercial/community facility on the ground floor and, on the upper level, two small and affordable starter flats for local people.
In addition, we would aim to improve the overall appearance of the building.
OUR WORK
High Street: Our Vision
Our Vision is a vibrant High Street with shops and services that meet the needs of the Community. It should provide interest for visitors to the town and residents alike
Facilities should ideally include one or more outlets for our talented local crafters and, as a designated “Market Town”, perhaps even space for a small occasional market.

Other Priorities
The Society has instigated and volunteered to work with Cricklade Town Council on a Strategy for the High Street. The group has been launched with members from CDF and Cricklade Town Council. It is expected the strategy will include a survey of what services the Community want so that efforts can be taken to ensure the right businesses are on our High Street.
Other important information will be gained by talking to existing businesses and establishing their future plans and what challenges they are facing e.g. the impact current parking issues are causing their customers. The Society will also continue to monitor Planning Applications and commenting and in some cases objecting formally to plans that jeopardise the High Street services.

The Society is owned by its members, is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and its objectives are set out in the Society’s Rule Book. Society Rules and other important information are available to download.
