Good news! Grant awards received from the Landfill Communities Fund.

by | Apr 24, 2023

Just before Christmas, we received some excellent news. Cricklade Development Foundation was awarded £10,000.00 from the The Hills Group Limited and £25,000 grant award from Crapper and Sons Ltd.

The money has been made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) which is administered for Hills and Crappers by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

The landfill grants, together with the £10,000 already received from the National Lottery, will help towards the creation of a new fully accessible pedestrian passageway, which will link the front to the rear of the Old Police Station. The new passageway will enable visitors to access a proposed new community area/garden (likely completion date 2024) and new toilet facilities at the rear.

The pedestrian link will be known as the Queen Elizabeth II Walkway and feature a timeline to commemorate the Queen’s life and Cricklade’s history during this time. It is envisaged this will become a place of interest on the High Street for both the community and visitors alike. To date, the passageway has been excavated, the steps leading to the front door removed, and design work for the timeline started.

For the toilets, the single storey storage area at the rear will be completely overhauled and converted. Work is already advanced on remodelling the space and renewing the roof, which to date has been largely financed by the Hills grant of £10,000.

So we wish to place on record our thanks and appreciation to Hills Group, Crapper and Sons, Community First and the National Lottery for their contribution to this aspect of our project.

When completed, Cricklade will have a new much needed social space on the High Street for the community to enjoy! It will become a lasting legacy to the Queen and help to enhance Cricklade’s already legendary community spirit!
